TORRANCE, California — The production version of the 2014 Acura RLX will make its formal debut on November 28 at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Acura unveiled a concept version earlier this year at the New York auto show.

This successor to the current RL sedan targets the Hyundai Genesis, Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.

American Honda Motor Company, parent of Acura, said the new flagship sedan will be equipped with a
Precision All Wheel Steer system and that an Acura RLX Sport Hybrid model will get the company's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive) system.

The system "will be applied to the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid model and the Acura NSX to realize both a high level of sporty handling and fuel economy," said the automaker in a statement.

The next-generation Acura NSX is due in 2014-'15.
Honda said the Precision All Wheel Steer system, which is able to adjust toe angle of the rear wheels, improves cornering control and steering precision.
Acura did not disclose the launch date or pricing on the 2014 RLX.

The front-wheel-drive RLX will be equipped with a new direct-injected, 3.5-liter VTEC V6 engine producing 310 horsepower. Honda did not disclose further details on the transmission in the 2014 RLX. The RLX concept had a hybrid drivetrain featuring the V6, plus a pair of electric motors, with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission sending power to all four wheels. The 2012 Acura RL is equipped with a 300-hp, 3.7-liter V6 and six-speed automatic transmission.

The production version of the RLX will get high-tech safety features, including a collision mitigation braking system and the first application of Acura's Lane Keep Assist system. Forward collision warning and lane departure warning will be standard equipment on the RLX. The RLX will get seven airbags, including a driver's knee airbag.

Acura's new sedan will also get the next-generation AcuraLink Communication system and the new Jewel Eye LED headlights that use a dual-stacked array of multiple high-intensity LED lamps, said Honda.
Edmunds says: The 2014 Acura RLX promises to be a technological powerhouse.
