Maserati logo history
The brand was founded in 1914 in Bologna by Alfieri Maserati, born into a family of seven brothers (brothers Maserati), five were involved in the development of automobiles. The sixth brother, Mario, an artist is supposed to have designed the emblem of the brand: a trident.
Carlo, the eldest, was the first to move. He made bicycles, then motorcycles. Later he became a test pilot at Fiat and Isotta Fraschini. He was killed racing in 1910.
In 1917, Alfieri launched production of spark plugs.
Alfieri and Ettore pledged in 1922 by the firm Diatto to make a first race car: the Tipo 20. Unhappy in Grand Prix, will nevertheless Diatto a car quickly and reliably. It will show by winning his first big success in endurance race, the 24 Hours of Monza in 1924.
The second car, one 2-liter 8-cylinder engine designed by Alfieri was less brilliant, and his failure led Diatto to withdraw from the race.
In 1926, the two brothers decided to build their own racecars. On this date what really launched the car brand Maserati. The first Maserati was developed on the basis of Diatto and took the designation Type 26, we are in 1926. This is the first "real" Maserati. It quickly becomes the formidable rival of the Bugatti. In 1926 she won the Targa Florio.
Alfieri died in 1932. With his death the firm loses its engineer and especially its manager. Bindo three brothers, Ernesto and Ettore, continue the case.
