ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, New Jersey — The first 2013 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in the U.S. will be auctioned off by the automaker to help the American Red Cross and its relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy.
The auction will be held on November 17 at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
The 2013 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta will go on sale in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2013. Ferrari said the car will have a base price of $315,888. But it is expected to fetch far more than that. The 730-horsepower F12 Berlinetta is the fastest and most powerful production car launched by Ferrari.
"The F12 Berlinetta is already in high demand and we expect the auction to yield a significant contribution to storm relief," said Marco Mattiacci, Ferrari North America president and CEO, in a statement.
Ferrari dealers can help those who can't make it to the auction in person to place a bid, the automaker said.
Ferrari has helped out in the past in the case of natural disasters. It auctioned off a Ferrari 599XX Evo to help victims of an earthquake in Italy earlier this year, raising almost $1.8 million.
Many automakers have stepped up with donations following Hurricane Sandy. Toyota gave $1 million to the Red Cross, while Hyundai donated $500,000 to the Red Cross. Mazda donated $100,000 to the Red Cross and made $5,000 grants to two food banks in the affected area.
