WASHINGTON — Aston Martin is recalling 1,098 2009-'12 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Coupes worldwide because of the risk of under-inflated tires, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"On these vehicles, the low tire pressure warning light will not illuminate until the tire pressure in the front tires is more than 25 percent below the recommended cold tire pressure," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "Under-inflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to tire failure and a possible crash."

Aston Martin said that 169 of the cars are in the U.S. Approximately 21 of the cars in North America remain unregistered, so they will be quarantined at dealerships until the problem is corrected.

Aston Martin said drivers may be alerted to the problem if they notice slightly higher steering input when driving the car.

Aston Martin dealers will reprogram the software for the tire pressure monitoring system. A date has not been set for the recall. Owners can contact Aston Martin at (888) 923-9988.

Edmunds says: One day it's a Camry, the next day it's an Aston Martin. Clearly, no car is immune from the prospect of a recall.
