Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH was founded by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach in 1909, was a German company dedicated to producing engines for Zeppelins and later luxury cars. The company has historical roots with the involvement of its founder who was the technical director of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (Daimler). Today, headquartered in Stuttgart, the company is owned by Daimler AG. Between 1921 and 1940, the company produced various classic opulent vehicles.

During the Second World War, the design and production capacity were used for military purposes. Maybach designed or manufactured the engines of many German military vehicles and several German armored vehicles of the Second World War as the Panzer IV, Tiger I and Panther.

The company also manufactures rugged and heavy diesel engines for use by the infantry and the railroad. Among the famous locomotives German Maybach engines are the V200 and the British Rail Class 52.

In 1960, Daimler-Benz acquired the majority shares of Maybach. Six years later, Maybach-Motorenbau branch was merged with the heavy engine Daimler-Benz to form a new company, Mercedes-Benz Maybach Motorenbau GmbH. In 1969 he became MTU Friedrichshafen.

Maybach was revived as a signature in early 2000 under the leadership of Mercedes-Benz.

After 69 years, the Maybach name came back to decorate a car, with production of a new model with two variants - the Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 (these numbers represent the length of the car in feet). Prices for these models range from 400,000 euros to 600,000 euros, due to price compete directly with the finest models from Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The 2005 model 57S was added, which has a more powerful engine and small cosmetic changes to enhance the sportsmanship from the model 57. In 2007 was also the 62 most powerful model, the Maybach 62S. In 2008, the Maybach 62S Landaulet premiered an exclusive convertible limousine with rear seats. Its predecessor, the Maybach 62 2003, one of which was acquired by the singer Madonna. There was not a new model since before the Second World War. In March 2009 came to light the limited edition models 57 and 62, the Zeppelin, another revival of the golden times of the legendary German mark.
