Fisker Automotive is a joint venture between Fisker Coachbuild and Quantum Technologies that has developed a plug-in hybrid sports car Which it intend to begin selling in June 2010. [2] The company is headquartered in Irvine, California.

The company states that it intend to Develop other products at some time in the future, [3] all of which will feature a plug-in hybrid technology it calls "Quantum Drive", developed by Quantum Technologies.

The company's sole existing product, the Fisker Karma is a plug-in hybrid sports car shown at the North American International Auto Show in January 2008. Fisker intend to sell its Karma PHEV in late 2009 in the U.S. and in the second quarter of 2010 in Europe. [4] The base price will be 78.780 euro. [5]

It has a claimed range of 49.7 miles (80.0 km) on electric charge before the gasoline range-extending engine turns on.

The estimated 15.000 cars per year will be sub-manufactured by Valmet Automotive in Finland. The assembly contract was announced July 15, 2008. [6]

The Karma hardtop convertible is planned to arrive in 2011 at an as-yet unstated price. [5]

Henrik Fisker Began the company in 2007 after securing almost $ 200 million in venture capital from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Palo Alto Investors and the Qatar Investment Authority. [7]

This is not Mr. Fisker's first venture in the automobile manufacturing business. He previously attempted to sell custom-bodied Mercedes-Benz SL and BMW 6 series cars. Despite much fanfare, this venture fell flat and only a couple of cars were made.
