In 1998, Rolls-Royce and Bentley were purchased from Vickers (its owner since 1980) by Volkswagen for £ 430 million after a bidding against BMW. BMW has recently started supplying components for a new line of cars, especially the V8 engines for the Bentley Arnage and V12 for the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph. The Rolls-Royce is not included in the purchase of VW and it was sold instead licensed to BMW (for £ 40 million) by the manufacturer of aircraft engines. BMW and Volkswagen came to an agreement where both VW assemble lines Bentley and Rolls-Royce until the end of 2002, then the rights to build cars "Rolls-Royce" would be just for BMW. During this period Volkswagen reduced its reliance as a supplier of BMW since 2003 and it is not BMW engine fitted the Bentley, but including the W12 Volkswagen.
In 2001 Bentley returned to endurance racing at Le Mans with the model EXP Speed 8, which uses a V8 with a turbo borrowed from sister company Audi. She won 3rd place in 2001 and 4th place in 2002, both races being won by Audi, Bentley before taking the first two places in 2003.
Since 2004 the Bentley Continental GT (2 385 kg) made it possible to recover very strongly to sales, increased from 995 in 2003 to 6576 in 2004 and more than 10 000 in 2006 (including 45% in the USA). The manufacturer has submitted to the autumn 2006 two new convertible, the Azure and Continental GTC, repect made based on the Arnage and Continental GT. Both are built on the historic site of Crewe. Azure and Arnage keep V 8 6.75 l. The Arnage is to be replaced in 2009. [1]
The Bentley Continental GT has a W12 engine that develops 560 hp, and Azure, which weighs 2.7 tons, a block of 6.75-liter V8 that develops 450 hp. The Continental GTC has disc brakes 405 mm forward. These cars are capable of incredible performance: 318 km / h en pointe for the Continental GT!
